Sukkot
What is it? Well, join me, as I share what Sukkot “Feast of Tabernacles” was for the Israelite people coming out of Egypt many years ago, their culture at that time and what truly does this mean for believers in Jesus today. First I would like to point out, that this “appointed time”, like many others are not often taught or talked about in most churches today. Like many of you, I certainly didn’t learn and come to understand these times that God talks about in His word and how they can still apply to me today.
Honestly, in my past experiences in churches, the Old Testament was often only used to quote a scripture or share a story about the Patriarchs. I thought that, the OT was mainly for a different people group, a past time in history, and that most of the written word in the OT, really didn’t have a relevance for me living today. God opened my heart am coming to a deeper understanding of the OT and that without it, there is no foundation for our future. My heart has been opened to hunger for the culture, to learn more about it and the “Jewish Jesus” that IS my Lord and Savior.
Through leaning on God and His will, Tim and I have shaped our ministry around bringing the OT and NT together, teaching people about the “appointed times” or “biblical feasts”. Showing how they are still relevant for believers today. There is such a beauty and richness in them and when we get out of our ‘western’ mindset, our eyes and hearts are open to discover the roots of our faith today!
No matter where you are in your journey and relationship with God, I speak this prayer over you, “Heavenly Father, I pray that as your children, we continue to hunger for Your Word. To seek you in ALL things. To extend the same grace and mercy that you so graciously extend to all of us, to everyone, everywhere. I pray we come to a better understanding of ALL of Your Word, from Genesis to Revelation. I pray we grow to love and understand the foundation you paved for all of us in the OT. Holy Spirit, lead and guide us, open our hearts and minds, give us wisdom and discernment. Jesus, we want to know You more, and seek to do Your Will, not ours. Open the eyes of our hearts O’God so we can better glorify Your Holy Name, In Jesus’ Mighty Name we pray, Amen!
Wherever you are on your journey, I pray this touches you and you grow a hunger to learn and grow more in His Word!
